The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
I started a new quest this week. I am reading through every author in our town library, starting at A and ending in Z. This guy was first up.
An Ambush of Widows is the story of an alliance between two widows that forms when their husbands are killed together. They have to wade through a ton of secrets and their own issues to get to the truth. Overall, it was just okay.
The Good – Admittedly, I am a sucker for a murder mystery kind of book. I can’t put them down until I find out who did it. And, even though the author did tip his hand, I had to read this to the end. So, the good was that it wasn’t so bad I gave up. I would like to give him kudos for the clean language and lack of graphic content in the book. There was an alledged affair and a child born out of wedlock to people who were very young, but nothing descriptive sexually and no language.
The Bad – Where do I start? I am so tired of rich people and their problems. You have a bazillion dollars, I really don’t care that you son isn’t bonding to you well and likes the neighbor more. Try staying home for a minute. I can’t relate to someone who has everything and needs nothing and doesn’t appear to know what it means to ever need something. Just over it.
Also, I figured out who was involved rather quickly. The neighbor was a bit too nosey. The brother getting shot at on his way to a meeting with the foster mom a bit to convenient. It was just all so foreshadowed that you couldn’t help but know. There were a few bits he had to tie together at the end, but I wasn’t guessing at all.
The Ugly – The fact that he set it up for more books. This author has written 20+ books. His writing on the other ones must be good, he has several series. Our library only has this one, so maybe it was not a great representation of his work. I don’t know that I will ever find out!
