My new neighbors like to point out snidely that since I lived so long in Alaska, this snow shouldn’t bother me at all. Of course Snowmaggedon bothers me, one of the reasons I chose this particular location was its distinct lack of snow. So, to have over a foot of snow dumped on my house in the course of a day is rather disturbing. I also enjoyed trying to get gas and having to find a gas station that wasn’t empty, or having my grocery order be mostly subbed items because the lunatics bought everything out! But lets back up…
Two or three (all a blur) weeks ago, the little guy got sick. He had to stay home from school for 3 or so days. It was pretty bad. I got him up and running again and back in school and the homeschooled 14 yo, who NEVER gets sick, got sick. He has not completed any school work now for two weeks. He only left the house for two events. First, his confirmation retreat, and second, his honor society meeting. Both events are rather rare, so I made him go. So two Sundays ago, I got it. This is the worst illness I think I have had since I don’t know when. It is all chesty coldy and coughy. Last night was the first night that I had slept through, even with generous doses of Nyquil. The headache has been so bad, I haven’t worked on any reading or writing. Today, the day after Snowmaggedon, is the first day I have felt almost normal.
To be honest, we did do some fun stuff while we were snowed in this weekend. I had stocked up on groceries and we made great food. As a special treat for dessert, I made homemade ChocoTacos because they are not made anymore. As the generation that was at the front of highly processed and bad for you food, it is hard to give up classics like ChocoTacos! I took chocolate chip waffles (which I really don’t recomend people eating for real or at least on a regular basis), I cooked them, but only to warmth not to crispyness. I waited for them to cool. I folded them like a taco and spooned in vanilla ice cream, which I admit was store bought due to illness. Then, I wrapped them in foil and stuck them in the freezer. After dinner, we topped them with chocolate topping and ate them.
So, today we have a snow day! School is pretty much universally out. Everything is closed. Husband has left for work because he feels he is essential, despite him having a home office that was created just for this purpose. I have big plans though! They all involve house cleaning, a very light workout and some very heavy reading!
