Literature is important. Reading and understanding what is read is important. As part of the homeschool community, we have worked to promote reading and literature everywhere we can. What can you do to promote reading and literature in your homeschool?
Read aloud – This one is probably the most important thing I think I did, it allows the enjoyment of complex stories before they are ready to read them
Have quiet reading time (in our homeschool there is a required 30 minutes a day, I have one that does the bare minimum, I have one that reads for hours – each kid is different, meet them where they are at)
Provide access to good books
Provide structure and places to read
Promote literature and reading as a part of life
Get a library card – there are books I won’t buy, but I will totally let them check it out from the library
